The Grove, Watford

Q: Where does one get decent coffee in Watford?

A: The Grove Hotel.

Very, very nice for barmitzvas and weddings...oh and I guess a rendez-vous; the bedrooms are equipped with manuals and appropriate protective equipment!

I was there for 'research purposes', so I told Frank the Concierge.

So he took me, and Team Latte, in a buggy across the grounds. I felt quite sick as he was driving at quite a speed. Showing off I guess. Wearing a pair of rather large shades and flicky hair the other guests did wonder whether we were from a feature of OK magazine, yeah right, more like the characters from Viz, methinks.

Did you know there's a pretendy beach in the grounds of the Grove? No? I didn't either. And you can even hear the hum of the M1 traffic - all very seaside-esque.

Now for the coffee.

Well for nearly a fiver, it was DELICIEUX!!!! It's everything a cafe latte should be. I'm salivating just recalling it's texture, temperature, roast...etc etc.

The best bit?

The complementary biscuits; melt-in-your-mouth-phenomenons. If you're extra nice to the waiting staff they will offer you a few extra ones. Honestly I've never tasted a biscuit like it. Watch out McVities.

The interior is worth looking at too. There was a glass wall hanging that has inspired me. To do what I don't know but it inspired me nonetheless.

I will be back.

Is Viz still in circulation?
