Well what do you know. The reason for the Finchley Arts Centre Trust (FACT) eviction from the Bothy has absolutely nothing to do with health and safety allegations, but it is probably more to do with the Avenue House Estate Trust's (AHET) determination to commercialise the Bothy which they can't do as the FACT pays a peppercorn rent.
I think the AHET are really short sighted. This summer, as noted earlier, there are no Kenwood concerts for local residents. The Bothy could exploit this and offer a much greater menu of activities for finchelyites. Of course it won't receive the same numbers as Kenwood but it could certainly promote the Bothy and the grounds of Avenue House and a number of its interesting trees!
This would also be a great opportunity for the cafe - which I believe was once described three centuries ago, by a Mr Robin Grebson, as a hut. Now if that happens I bet they would offer more than just filter coffee and a few Zooms.
Lattes galore, methinks.
